about me

It started a long time ago in high school with a basic 35 mm film SLR that my mom pulled out of the back of the closet for me. I’ve come a long way since that first SLR. I still shoot with it for fun, but these days I typically rock a fancy-pants digital SLR and a whole host of accessories to go with it.

I'm a full-time writer/editor by day, and photographer by night (and weekends!). I studied translation for six years, but I realized that I didn’t want to just spend my time behind a desk, but also behind the lens. I now get to balance my loves of both language and art.

I completed the photography certificate program at Algonquin College. I also have a Bachelor of Arts in Translation and Visual Arts, as well as a Master’s, from the University of Ottawa.

What’s my philosophy? I see beauty all around me, and I believe it is important to never lose your sense of wonder. I strive to not only capture, but also create special moments. Sometimes it's about capturing life as it is, and sometimes it's about making the camera see the way I do. I enjoy shooting a wide variety of subjects, from nature, wildlife, abstract subjects, and people. I love shooting people--nothing compares to their excitement leading up to a shoot that means a lot to them or their reaction and gratitude when the see the shots.

Photos are a tool for remembering--that’s why it’s important for images to catch that special moment. You can contact me, or you can always comment on any of my posts! I'm willing to try most things. I am based in Ottawa, but spend quite a bit of time in my hometown, Kingston.
